San Diego's Most Popular and Beautiful Beaches

Sunset Cliffs

Named for its exquisite sunset vistas, Sunset Cliffs Park is 68 acres of bluffs and walking paths high above the wide expanse of the Pacific Ocean. Sunset Ciffs Park sits between Point Loma Nazarene College to the south and Adair Street to the north along Sunset Cliffs Boulevard. Take I-8 west, it turns in to Sunset Cliffs Blvd, which takes you to Sunset Cliffs Park. I grew up going to the cliffs and it is a great place to , run, drive, surf, swim, or view a wedding.

Ocean Beach

Swim surf, play some volleyball or picnic. Take Interstate 8 west until it ends and turns into Sunset Cliffs Blvd. Continue west on Sunset Cliffs Blvd. and it will lead you to the heart of O.B. A right turn on Narragansett will take you directly to the pier. This beach is know for the Chili Cook Off and Street Fair. It also has one of the best fireworks displays in the city.

Mission Beach

The boardwalk at Mission Beach offers up some of the best people watching in all of San Diego.  Mission Beach is nearly two miles of ocean that lies between Mission Bay to the east and Pacific Beach to the north. The boardwalk offers many attractions including a roller coaster, the plunge and much more.

The Children's Pool

The Children's Pool is a beautiful spot to sunbathe and has the added bonus of a marine mammal show of seals and sea lions playing in and around the shore or at Seal Rock, their offshore reserve. 5 to La Jolla Village Drive west. Turn left on Torrey Pines Road. Turn right at Prospect Street, bearing right on Coast Boulevard. From the south, take Interstate 5 north to Ardath Road. Stay on Ardath Road, which will turn into Torrey Pines Road. Take Torrey Pines Road to prospect Street and turn right. Veer right on Coast Boulevard.

La Jolla Cove

La Jolla Cove has some of the clearest water out of all the San Diego Beaches, making it ideal for scuba diving and snorkeling. La jolla Cove is located at 1100 Coast Boulevard.

La Jolla Shores

The sheer beauty and flat expanse of La Jolla Shores makes it a a great place to stroll, picnic or toss a Frisbee while enjoying the waves breaking on the beach. Interstate 5, La Jolla Village Drive exit, west. Turn left at Torrey Pines Road and follow it to La Jolla Shores Drive.

Torrey Pines

Hiking trails wind down to a 4 1/2 mile stretch of beach that is uncrowded and ideal for swimming, walking or picnicking. Take the Carmel Valley Road exit off of I-5.

Del Mar

Del Mar's beach is perfect for families, tourists and surfers who enjoy it's wide expanse of sand.  From north take I-5, exit at Villa de la Valle. From the south take I-5 north to Del Mar Heights Road.

Moonlight State Beach

This is one of my favorite beaches! It offers all the fine beach perks that make for a nice day on the beautiful Pacific Ocean, including picnic areas with tables, lifeguards, restrooms, fire rings, volleyball courts, a snack shack, a new children's play area and public parking. Take I-5 to Encinitas Boulevard and head west.

Carlsbad

Carlsbad beaches offer numerous activities from swimming, surfing and skin diving to wind surfing, camping, birdwathcing, hiking and kayaking.  Carlsbad State Beach is located at 100 Tamarack Ave.

Oceanside

Oceanside's wide expansive sandy and palm covered beach is perfect for swimming, sunbathing, surfing or simply romping in the Blue Pacific Ocean. Take I-5 North from San Diego to coast Highway.
